2.1Chichester district lies within the county of West Sussex in the south east of England. A large proportion of the district is occupied by the South Downs National Park which cuts west to east across the area separating the rural parishes to the north from the more populated coastal area to the south. For the purposes of planning policy, the plan area comprises the part of the district that is located outside of the South Downs National Park and planning policy for the National Park is the responsibility of the South Downs National Park Authority.

2.2The majority of the data in this report covers the district in its entirety as this is how the data is collected and analysed by external sources such as the Office of National Statistics.

2.3The extent of the local plan area is available to view on the council’s baseline map. The relevant layers will need to be selected from the layers list and ‘toggled’ on.
