Local Plan Review: Preferred Approach 2016-2035

Representation ID: 348

Received: 24/01/2019

Respondent: Mr Paul Sansby

Representation Summary:

The allocation of 300 houses to the Tangmere SDL is unsustainable and other sites are available in Tangmere and to the south of Chichester.

There is no need for additional facilities in Tangmere and they should not be used as a justification for additional development.

Tangmere is not a sustainable location considering the A27 problems.

Full text:

The allocation of another 300 houses to the Tangmere SDL is not justified in terms of facilities and is not sustainable. There is brownfield land still available in Tangmere on the 'Apron' site which is in public ownership. (WSCC) Development sites should provide a net ecological gain and this can only be achieved with sufficient green space and wildlife corridors. If additional housing is required then sites to the south of Chichester are available and much closer to secondary schools and public transport links.

There is no argument that additional development provides community facilities. Tangmere already has a village centre, two shops, a garage, a recreation field, a primary school and a doctors surgery. None of these facilities were provided by developers and proposals for additional sports facilities are unlikely to be viable even in a village twice the size that it is now. Underused facilities become a drain on the local community and impact on existing facilities and businesses.

With no solution to the A27 congestion problem housing site should be as close as possible to the City Centre facilities and public transport network.
