Network Rail supports a move towards sustainable travel, including by improving access to the train station through safe routes that reduce interaction with the railway and use of existing railway crossings. The station itself has limited capacity issues and can accommodate increased passengers, as can the rail services stopping at the station due to additional services being run on the line since 2024. This supports a move towards increased use of sustainable travel.

Network Rail do not encourage the increased use of Inlands Road due to the proximity of the level crossing. Active travel improvements should be focused on the north of the railway along Cooks Lane towards the station. The alternative crossing of the railway at Cooks Lane could also improve access south of the railway but encouraging use of the Inlands Road level crossing is not acceptable. To make this sound, reference to keeping active travel improvements north of the railway where possible is necessary to be justified and effective and to avoid affecting railway safety.
