This policy re-instates the already reject policy presented under A27 improvement by the Highways Agency. Highways England was informed by the CDC that it had rejected scheme 2A and had a preference for a northern route for future A27 development. In light of the Secretary of State's comment in parliament that there was to be no funding in the current round due to the local authorities inability to promote a cogent response to the consultations on route choice, it will be tempting to revert to plan A. This is diametrically opposed to the expressed will of the CDC in the decision last summer. For all the many reasons rehearsed in the council meetings last year, this proposal is unacceptable and delays the necessary preparation of a northern relief road.
