Local Plan Review: Preferred Approach 2016-2035
Policy S7: Meeting Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeoples' Needs
Representation ID: 2345
Received: 06/02/2019
Respondent: National Federation of Gypsy Liaison Groups
Object to policy:
- need cannot be met through approach set out in Policy S7
- restricting site selection is unrealistic, sites will need to be found inc consideration of those outside of settlement boundaries
- criteria based policy required and must be flexible
We raise objections to the approach put forward to deal with provision for Gypsies and Travellers.
The high level of need cannot possibly be met by adopting the approach set out in Policy S7.
Restricting site selection in the method set out is unrealistic. Additional sites will need to be found and this will require consideration of sites beyond settlement boundaries.
A criteria based policy is needed to deal with proposals which may come forward and this must be sufficiently flexible to meet the high level of need.
Without such an approach the plan will be unsound and will not be effective in meeting the need for Traveller provision.
