Chichester Local Plan 2021 - 2039: Proposed Submission

Your views are really important to us. Along with the evidence that we have gathered, the views you have submitted through previous consultations have helped us shape the Chichester Local Plan that we intend to submit for examination.

Before it is submitted, we are running a very specific consultation. This enables you to view the plan and comment on soundness and legal compliance. All of the comments will be submitted to the Inspector for consideration alongside the plan.

  • Each box below will take you to a chapter in the Local Plan document where you can comment by clicking on the blue speech bubble to the left of the text. For further guidance on how to comment using this consultation portal visit, we have created a video with simple tips and a Step by Step Guide or click on the 'help' button at the top of this page.
  • Please note that you do not need to have an account or be logged in to read the document, but you will need to log in to comment. This is because the Inspector will need to know who has made each comment as part of the examination. If you don’t already have an account, you will be prompted to register and will be given instructions when you click the blue speech bubble.
  • The tests that you can comment on are: is it legally compliant? is it sound? and, does it comply with the duty to cooperate?  You can click on the question mark that appears against each test to see an explanation, and you can find out more, at:

  • This version of the Local Plan represents the policies and allocations the Chichester District Council proposes to submit to the Secretary of State for independent examination.

What Happens Next

All the comments received will be assembled and passed to an independent planning inspector appointed by the Secretary of State who will examine the Plan (together with a range of supporting documents). The Inspector will consider the representations received by the council to the proposed submission version of the Plan to inform his or her decision about whether the Plan can be adopted by the council, or whether it must first be amended to make it 'sound' and to ensure it meets legal and national policy tests.

If any significant modifications are thought necessary by the Inspector, these will also be the subject of further consultation.

Data Protection

All documents will be held at the main office of Chichester District Council, and representations will be published online (with signatures, addresses and email addresses redacted). Your personal data will be stored as required in accordance with the council's General Protection Policy which can be viewed here –
