Local Plan Review: Preferred Approach 2016-2035

Representation ID: 74

Received: 09/01/2019

Respondent: Ms Lynne Healy

Representation Summary:

No amount of tweaking the road layout in the immediate area of the new development can change the fact that there is only one road to the peninsula. This road is already congested at peak times and stationary for hours at a time when tourists flock to the area.

Unless you truly believe that people will not need to travel off the peninsula for vital services and employment this proposal for a potential 1213 new homes simply does not make sense. The peninsula would not function for residents or tourists with so much extra demand on an already inadequate infrastructure.

The possible development of 1213 new homes is unsustainable for many reasons. The key points for me are:
No amount of tweaking the road layout in the immediate area of the new development can change the fact that there is only one road to the peninsula. This road is already congested and very slow at peak times and stationary for hours at a time in the summer when tourists flock to the area.

At a time when we increasingly recognise the vital role 'wildlife' plays and the delicate balance of their ecosystem this constant destruction of their habitat is, quite frankly, shortsighted and plain stupid.

Unless you truly believe that people will not need to travel off the peninsula for services, employment, healthcare, education, entertainment this proposal for a potential 1213 new homes simply does not make sense. The peninsula cannot continue to function for residents or tourists with so much extra demand on an already inadequate infrastructure.
